The following items were discussed at the regular monthly meeting of the Stratford Town Council held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
Second Reading and Adoption Held
A resolution was approved with second reading and adoption held to approve text amendments to the Zoning and Development Bylaw #45 to reduce province wide confusion in the industry caused by referring to the vertical fire separation required for semi-detached and townhouse dwellings as a “firewall”.
Mobile Vendors Bylaw
Second reading and adoption was held to approve the Mobile Vendors Bylaw - Bylaw #55.
Special Permit Use
A resolution was approved granting a Special Permit Use to Craig Murphy on behalf of What’s the Scoop? Inc. to operate Ken’s Island Fries Food Trailer, on parcel number 398693, located at 20 Irving Avenue. This process was necessary to allow the operator to open as though approved by Stratford Town Council, the Mobile Vendors Bylaw will not be in effect until signed off by the Minister with the Province of PEI.
Standby Generators for Sewer Lift Stations
CBCL Limited was awarded an engineering services contract following a tender process which received a total of six (6) respondents. The consultants will complete the design, tendering, contract administration, record drawings and site observation for the Sewer Lift Stations Standby Generator project consisting of five permanent generators to be installed at the following locations: Bayside, East Keppoch, Stonington, Skye Lane and Battery Point sewage lift stations.
Hydrant Installation
A resolution approved the award of a contract to Landmark Construction to supply and install fire hydrants in the core area. As the project has come under budget, Stratford Utility was able to negotiate with the proponent and an additional four (4) hydrants will be installed for a total of 14 this year.
Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund
By resolution, an application will be submitted on behalf of the Town of Stratford to the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund (CHIF) for two projects: Upgrading of Water Distribution System in Reeves Estates and Mason Road Sewer Lift Station Upgrades.
Proclamations
Two proclamations were made by Mayor Steve Ogden:
• Huntington Disease Awareness Month (May 2025)
• Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month (May 2025)
