Smart Cities Challenge

The Town of Stratford has submitted an application to the federal government’s Smart Cities Challenge.  Through this challenge, they are looking for innovative projects that leverage technology and connected data to overcome municipal challenges and issues.  Stratford consulted with residents to determine what the challenges and issues are – a summary of which is below. The issue that Stratford is trying to overcome in its Smart Cities Challenge application is the retention of immigrants.  Many immigrants land in PEI but then move to the larger urban centers but immigrants are also needed in smaller, rural areas like Stratford, to sustain and drive the economy.  Stratford will do this by building on existing efforts to ensure that all people are welcome and included.

A summary of what we heard during this process is available here:  Smart Cities Challenge – Engagement Summary

A copy of the Town of Stratford’s complete application is available here: Town of Stratford – Smart Cities Challenge Application, Final (April 24, 2018)

We look forward to continuing to share more info as we (hopefully) move forward in this process!

Media Release: Media Release – Smart Cities Challenge Application Moves to Next Step (May 8, 2018)

In late June the Town of Stratford was notified that we unfortunately did not make it through to the next round. While disappointed, we have the ability to reapply next year and are committed to continuing to explore the opportunities available to implement the proposal in the future, possibly in stages, and thank our residents for your feedback during the consultation process.
