Pondside Park

DSCF5744Pondside Park is located on the Stratford Road, in the heart of the core area of town. The park is an irregular shaped property comprising 11 acres of open and wooded areas bounded by residential properties, two small streams feed the Hatchery Pond. The property was originally the site of a government fish hatchery and, in 1994, the Community of Southport purchased the property from the Province.

 

small_Pondside_Tennis_Courts_0The park is used by residents for a variety of recreational activities including picnics, tennis, basketball, ball hockey and by the Red Cross (park and pond) summer programs.The tennis coourts are some of the beautifully situated courts in the Greater Charlotteown area.

 

small_DSCF7049Pondside Park is also one of the remnant  forest areas in the town with diverse tree species and a small area of old growth forest which provide refuge and food sources for many birds. Birds of prey can often be seen over the pond, watching for an opportunity to catch a fish or two.
