Public Consultation: Birchwood Intermediate School

Image of a bulletin board with a yellow post it note and words Have Your Say written on the paperThe Town of Stratford is aware of a public input process extended to current Birchwood Intermediate School parents and guardians by the Public Schools Branch. We believe that this opportunity should include the wider community, particularly future and recent past parents and guardians.

The Town of Stratford’s position remains that before any expansion, renovation, addition, or new build in the greater Charlottetown area proceeds, a new build intermediate (junior high) school should be constructed in the Town of Stratford. With a population now exceeding 11,000, and a new high school to be constructed in the near future on the Stratford Community Campus, our youth, who make up more than 80% of the Birchwood Intermediate School population presently, should continue to receive their education in their own community. Doing so will allow them to maintain and build a stronger connection to their community, ensure potential shared resources between the Community Campus infrastructure and school can be found, and is also a cost savings and environmental success as less travel time will be required for our school buses, and other vehicular traffic now travelling into Charlottetown. While this has been announced as an election promise by one of the provincial parties, we encourage residents to respond to this public input opportunity to show our support regardless of the upcoming election outcome.
