Long Term Planning

Long Term Planning reffers to planning activities and tasks which initiate the Town’s vision, key strategies and major policies for the future development. An integrated comprehensive plan would be a road map towards future development. The time horizon for a long term plan varies from 5 to 20 years and in some cases could be 50 years or more.

Major Stratford’s long term planning tasks includes:

The Core Area Development Plan

The core area of town can be reasonably described as the lands on either side of the Trans Canada Highway from the Hillsborough Bridge to the Stratford Industrial Park. The intention of the town is to create the opportunity for increased population densities within the core area that builds on a pedestrian friendly mixed-use development.

In March 2008, Core Area Plan amendments adopted by the Town of Stratford stated that as a minimum requirement, all aspects of the Town Plan and future economic development will conform to at least one aspect of sustainability, and more often than not, individual concepts will conform to multiple aspects of interconnected sustainable development issues. This plan allows for much more intense land use, mixed use, and higher population density than Stratford has historically allowed within its jurisdiction.

Developing new policies and bylaws

The Planning Department is committed to developing new policies and bylaws which promote sustainable development within the town. Our major planning policies and bylaws include

The Annual Work Plan

In order to manage our time and resources; to achieve our goals and objectives and also to evaluate our accompolishment and performance we develop an annual work plan for the department.
