RCMP in StratfordPolice Protection in the Town is provided via a contract with the RCMP.  For emergencies call 911, for non-emergency services please call 368-9300. There are currently 6 officers assigned to police the Town of Stratford.  S/Sgt M. G. Murphy is the Stratford supervisor The members enforce various federal and provincial statutes in the Town such as the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act.  In addition, the members also enforce the Town’s Nuisance Bylaw.

A Policing Needs Study was contracted in 2007 and the reccomendation was for Stratford to continue contracting with the RCMP until 2012 when the current contract expires.

In addition, the RCMP work with various groups in the Town on crime prevention and conduct DARE (Drug Awareness and Resistance) training at Glen Stewart School.

The Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP (CPC) is an independent agency, created by Parliament in 1988 to ensure that public complaints made about the conduct of RCMP members are examined fairly and impartially. The Commission is essentially the RCMP watchdog. Its fundamental role is to provide civilian review of on-duty RCMP member conduct.
CPC’s mandate is to receive complaints from the public about the conduct of RCMP members, conduct reviews when complainants are not satisfied with the RCMP's handling of their complaints, carry out investigations, report findings and make recommendations aimed at correcting and preventing recurring policing problems. Anyone, including a non-citizen, who has a concern about the conduct of an RCMP member can make a complaint. You do not have to be directly involved in the incident; you can make a complaint on behalf of someone else, or as a witness to an incident.
Anyone with concerns about the conduct of an RCMP member may call the CPC at 1-800-665-6878 and talk about these concerns with one of the CPC staff. After you contact the CPC, a member of the CPC staff will describe our role to you and help you decide whether you want to lodge a formal complaint or take advantage of other options that may be available to you such as alternate dispute resolution. A complaint can also be submitted through the Commission's website: www.ComplaintsCommission.ca
