FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, November 5, 2019

The Town of Stratford once again invites Stratford residents, family, friends, and visitors to participate in honouring our veterans at the 14th Annual Stratford Remembrance Day Ceremony to be held on Monday, November 11th beginning at 10:45 a.m. at Stratford Town Centre.

“The Town of Stratford is proud to honour our veterans at our annual Remembrance Day service,” stated Mayor Steve Ogden. “The sacrifice made by these individuals should never be forgotten. Our event continues to see a high number of attendees each year from all walks of life and backgrounds. We are proud of our community and stand strong together for our country.”

In the lead up to our Remembrance Day Ceremony residents are encouraged to get to know some of Stratford’s very own veterans by visiting our Stratford Heroes display which will be available for viewing from November 1st to 15th at Stratford Town Centre. Residents are also encouraged to take time to notice the bus shelters around the Town of Stratford which are once again displaying some of our veterans.

A highlight once again this year is the opportunity for children to show veterans their gratitude for the sacrifices they made in serving our country. A table will be located inside Stratford Town Centre with materials and guidance available for children to create hand-made valentines. Each year Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) invites Canadian schools, individuals and organizations to make Valentines for Vets. VAC, then distributes the valentines to Veterans in long-term care facilities across the country in time for February 14. We hope that many of the children attending the service will take a few minutes on this important day, Remembrance Day, to create a Valentine which will bring joy to a Canadian Veteran on Valentine's Day in 2020.

Veterans and present serving members of the Canadian Forces who wish to be on parade are asked to meet at 10:15 a.m. in the gymnasium at Stratford Town Centre. The ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m. at Stratford Town Centre, 234 Shakespeare Drive. Refreshments will be available following the ceremony and all are welcome to attend.
