An attractive selection of inventory

Stratford Discounters opened their doors in late 2018, timed perfectly to capture the Christmas shopping season, but some area residents may not realize that this location is open year-round. The Stratford store is one of ten in Greg Butler’s total group of Christmas Discounters stores around the Maritimes, and one of four permanent, open year-round locations in PEI.

A quick tour of the shop, located next to Phinley’s and the re-developed Home Hardware site, reveals literally hundreds – or possibly thousands – of products, all the way from toys to tape measures, curtains to craft supplies, and brooms to baskets. Prices range from 49 cents to about 49 dollars. This year, cozy hooded blankets are popular, which is no surprise. A full aisle displays bedding and other household goods and the store stocks an attractive mix of gift bags and party supplies, including the ability to supply helium balloons.

Well stocked shelves in Stratford Discounters

Well stocked & tidy shelves of affordable items

Assistant Manager Hazen Dyment is proud of the store’s well-stocked, and very tidy shelves. “A lot of residents really appreciate being able to buy small tools and hardware supplies without leaving town,” says Hazen. “And we also just added some basic grocery items.”

Owner Greg Butler searches out well-priced merchandise all the way from Ontario or Quebec to China; gathering inventory for his ten stores allows him to negotiate some great deals.

About nine staff members keep the shelves stocked and organized at Stratford Discounters. The store is open Monday to Saturday from 9-9 and Sunday 12-6 pm.
