June 11, 2014 Council Meeting Summary

The following items were discussed at the Regular monthly meeting of the Stratford Town Council on Wednesday June 11, 2014.

Water School Calendar
Awards were handed out to the winners of the 2014-2015 Water School Calendar art contest.

Trans Canada Trail Extension
Council passed a resolution to award the tender for the section of Trans Canada Trail from the Hillsborough Bridge to the end of the trail adjacent to the Sewer Treatment Plant to MacRae Backhoeing Services in the amount of $73,678.20 (HST included).

Charlottetown Rural High School Graduation
Council passed a resolution to donate $600 for two graduation awards of $300 each to be awarded to a graduating student who is actively involved with the community of Stratford and a graduating student who has shown a sustainable commitment to the community.

22 MacDonald Drive Side Yard Variance
Council passed a resolution to approve Parker Perry’s application for two (4.5 feet) or 37.5% side yard variances to allow the applicant to build his proposed single family dwelling on parcel number 776443, located at 22 MacDonald Drive reducing the minimum yard setback from 12 feet to 7.5 feet.

Summary Proceedings Bylaw
At the request of the Town of Stratford, the Province amended the Charlottetown Municipalities Act to allow the Town to issue tickets for summary offences against the Noise and Nuisance Bylaw; the Dangerous and Unsightly Premises Bylaw; and the Animal Control Bylaw.
Council passed resolutions to approve the second reading and the adoption of a new Summary Proceedings Bylaw to aid the Bylaw Enforcement Officers in carrying out their duties by enabling the issuance of Municipal Offence tickets for Bylaw infractions.

Council also passed resolutions to approve the second reading and adoption amendments to the Noise and Nuisance Bylaw; the Dangerous and Unsightly Premises Bylaw; and the Animal Control Bylaw to enable the issuance of tickets. A copy of the approved bylaws is attached.
