Dignitaries officially open Stratford’s new Fullerton’s Creek Well field

On December 19, 2013 the Town of Stratford will officially open the Fullerton’s Creek well field located at 41 MacIntosh Drive, Reeves Estates.

The requirement of a new well field was identified as part of the Town’s ongoing water and sewer servicing strategy. The project involved the installation of two new production wells in a location that would allow the Town to purchase and regulate the surrounding property in order to provide a protected water supply to Stratford residents.

After council identified a new well field was required in order to reduce reliance on the current system, the town initiated a Well field Exploration Program. Locations throughout Stratford were tested to determine a suitable site that met all Provincial regulations.

The Town required a site that would allow them to purchase the surrounding area to better ensure the safety and protection of the new well. The Fullerton’s Creek Well field site was selected and Federal and Provincial funding from the Build Canada Fund was secured to complete the 2.6 million dollar project.

In accordance with the Town of Stratford’s Water Safety Program, the Town purchased 140 acres of land from private landowners to allow for a well field protection zone. This land was purchased with funds from the Town’s water capital contribution fee which is collected from all developments within the Town of Stratford.

In addition to purchasing land to maintain standards set out in the Water Safety Plan, the control building at the site was designed and built following Green Globe guidelines to ensure the building aligns with the Town’s sustainability vision.

The Town brought the new production wells on line with Stratford’s water system in the early fall.

As part of our commitment to protecting our natural resources, the Town of Stratford continues to focus on water conservation. This, along with the new well field ensures Stratford has a protected and stable water supply for many years to come, continuing to move the Town of Stratford ever closer to building the best community possible.
