Official Plan Review

On May 7, 2013 we launched our Official Plan Review. The Official Plan is a long-term planning document that provides the foundation for the nature, extent and pattern of land use and development in the Town. It states a comprehensive vision for the Town and directs how the Town will manage physical, social and economic development in the community, while protecting the natural environment. It is vital that the Official Plan reflect the desires and aspirations of Stratford residents and stakeholders.

Keeping our commitment to more deeply and meaningfully engage with residents and stakeholders in the decision making process, we are taking a collaborative approach to develop the Official Plan. We encourage all residents and stakeholders to share their knowledge and experiences with us throughout the review process so we can develop an Official Plan that reflects your needs and desires.

The first phase of the Official Plan Review was an online community engagement tool. This tool, OP Review Online, allowed residents and stakeholders to provide feedback on proposed objectives and policies as well as a place to illustrate what type of development they would like in the Town and where. You will find the results of the OP Review Online here.

The second phase of the Official Plan Review was a Citizen Reference Panel. The Panel met thirteen times between September and December 2013 to develop recommendations for the draft Official Plan. The Panel was comprised of volunteer residents and stakeholders who reviewed the results from the OP Review Online and background reports to develop the recommendations for the draft Official Plan (you can find a list of the background reports and documents here).

A huge thank you to the residents who dedicated many hours of hard work to create recommendations for the plan; many wonderful ideas were generated. We truly enjoyed collaborating with residents on this exciting and important process, and look forward to collaborating with residents in the future as we strive to build the best community possible.

In the new year a draft Official Plan will be presented to the public for review, then presented to Council for final approval. For more information about the Official Plan please visit our Official Plan page. Please continue to check our website for more information about the Official Plan Review and ways you can get involved.
