Senior Engagement Program – Project Coordinator

The Town of Stratford, with funding from the federal New Horizons Program for Seniors, is developing a number of programs/computer apps that will help seniors to become more involved and engaged with one another and with the community at large. The project is designed to provide opportunities for seniors to engage in community life by mentoring young families and newcomers, and connecting to other seniors to provide assistance or the exchange of goods and services.

  • young families who need occasional support and advice (caring grannies)
  • other seniors who can help seniors with chores, drives to appointments etc. (seniors match program)
  • new immigrants to welcome them and help them to navigate local rules, customs and services (immigrant family mentoring program)
  • other seniors to exchange tools, equipment, books, etc. (seniors exchange program)

The project coordinator shall:

  • liaise with a steering committee of six seniors to design and oversee the program
  • scope, with the steering committee, each proposed program
  • develop and issue a request for proposals for the development of the apps
  • develop and issue a request for proposals for the promotion of the program
  • implement the apps and promotion strategies
  • train town staff on the ongoing administration of the program and use of the apps
  • monitor and evaluate the program

The estimated project duration is 20 weeks and 300 hours have been allotted for the coordinator position over that time period.  The pay rate is $22.50 per hour.
