Stratford Providing Support for Resident Efforts to Clean our Beaches and Trails

Stratford, PE – The Town of Stratford has been working cooperatively with Bob Jensen who was recently in the news with an initiative called “Hike and Bag”. He has been challenging other users of our Island beaches and trails to bring along a garbage bag with them when they go for a walk and to collect the garbage they come across in an effort to keep it out of our waterways.

“The Town is always receptive to encouraging residents to take more pride in our environment,” commented Stratford Mayor David Dunphy, “and we were happy to work with Bob to assist him in his efforts.”

One of the challenges identified was how to dispose of the bags of garbage collected by Bob and others from area beaches and trails. The Town of Stratford has agreed to provide a collection container which will be located in a public, accessible location for volunteer participants to access and be able to dispose of the bags of trash collected. The container will have a lock on it with access given to any resident who registers with the Town as a participant in the beach and trail clean-up initiative. The Town will maintain and empty the container as needed.

“We hope that others will volunteer to do the same and if they have concerns with the disposal of what they are collecting, to please reach out to our staff,” added Dunphy. “We thank Bob for his passion and for raising awareness of this important issue, and especially for taking it one step further and being a part of the solution.”

Anyone interested in signing up can email info@townofstratford.ca and Twitter users are encouraged to use the hashtag #HikeandBag the next time they are cleaning up on the Island.
