The following items were discussed at the regular monthly meeting of the Stratford Town Council:

Resolution Passed Naming Former Library Building

Council approved a resolution to name the previously unnamed former sales office/library at Robert L Cotton Park to the Gertrude Cotton Building. The building is currently used for recreational and cultural programming. Robert and Gertrude Cotton are well known for their philanthropy, particularly rural beautification and the donation of large tracts of land for provincial parks including Strathgartney, Selkirk and Brudenell.

Preliminary Approval for Granted for Former Home Hardware Building

Preliminary approval was granted on an application received from Sable Arc Studios to renovate and redevelop the former Home Hardware property located at 14 Kinlock Road. The renovation will include a complete redesign of the exterior and interior of the building to become a 10 unit commercial property.

Street Names approved for Next Phase of Southside Greens Development

The following street names were approved by Council as recommended by the Planning & Heritage Committee:
• Heather Drake Way
• Fiddler’s Green Way
• Reta Gerry Lane
• Clarey Way

Foxwoods Subdivision Street Names Approved

The following street names were approved for Foxwoods Subdivision as recommended by the Planning & Heritage Committee:
• Flourish Heights
• Maple Leaf Row
• Tulip Crescent
• Hyacinth Crescent
• Lavender Lane
• Jasmine Crescent
• Dandelion Court
• Poppy Court

Koughan Heights Subdivision Street Name Approved

The following street name was approved for Koughan Heights Subdivision as recommended by the Planning & Heritage Committee:
• Craigavon Court

Committee Member Appointment

Two residents were appointed to committees for the remainder of the existing two year committee term. One member will serve on the Accountability and Engagement Committee and the other on the Infrastructure Committee.

Electoral Boundary Review

In accordance with the Stratford Election Bylaw after every third municipal election a Commission must be established to review the boundaries of electoral wards. The Commission must be made up of a current or former Judge of the PEI Supreme Court, a former Council member and a resident member who is neither a judge or a former Council member. Town Council voted in favor of appointing Justice John McQuaid and former Mayor Kevin Jenkins to the Commission. The Terms of Reference for the Commission were also approved during the meeting.
