Stratford & Area Lions Club Update

The Town of Stratford apologies to the Stratford & Area Lions Club on the recent omission of their article in our Town Talk newsletter. Please check out what great work their club is doing!

Warm January greetings from the Stratford and Area Lions Club. Being the start of a new year, let helping others and your community be your New Year’s resolution. Consider being a Lion! The overwhelming feeling of generosity and pride within will grow knowing how much you can make a difference. Speak to any Lions member for more information about becoming a member!

We recently held our Christmas Senior’s Social for area seniors which included a visit from Santa who brought along candy canes and we had various door prize draws. All in attendance seemed to enjoy the entertainment and lunch that was served.

A quick recap of our fall activities which included our apple pie and bagged apple sale. This  was again an awesome success and our thanks to all who supported it! We also hosted a pancake breakfast for the Glen Stewart Primary and Stratford Elementary schools. We served almost 700  breakfasts in 3 hours and all of the proceeds went directly to the schools. Once again we thank you for your support!

Our next pancake breakfast will be held during February’s Stratford Winter Fam Fest. We will be on the go before the crack of dawn getting the prep done to be ready for all of you to take a break and enjoy breakfast prepared by us!

We continue to have a monthly ceildh which takes place on the third Tuesday each month. We have a great lineup of local talent and a light lunch is served. Crib is held weekly on Thursday and you just may be the big winner with the best hands that night! Both of these events take place at the Robert Cotton Center.
This past fall we honored 2 of our members with awards. Layton Docherty received the Melvin Jones Fellowship which is a Lions International award for Lions whom go above and beyond for humanitarian needs . Howard Bonnell received a life time membership from Lions International for his long standing service of almost 50 years of being a Lion! Congratulations to both of you!

You can now find us on Facebook. Please like our page, Stratford and Area Lions, to keep updated on activities and projects we are involved with.

Our motto is ‘WE SERVE’ so if you or someone you know needs assistance in Stratford and surrounding areas, please feel free to contact any Lions member , email us anytime at the following: stratford.area.lions@hotmail.com or reach out to our president Barry Sherren at 902-569-3935.
