Media Release: Stratford Energy Champion and Green Energizer Award Ceremony

For Immediate Release: December 12, 2016

The Stratford Community Energy Plan Committee met recently to review the nominations and select the Stratford Energy Champion and Green Energizer award winners. After reviewing all of the nominations, a resident from each category has been selected based on their strong commitment to energy conservation, climate change and sustainability. An official award ceremony will be held at Stratford Town Centre on Wednesday, December 14 at 7:00pm.

The 2016 Stratford Energy Champion Award recipient is Len Currie. Mr. Currie is working hard reduce his personal greenhouse gas emissions while saving money. He has installed solar panels on his house, installed heat pumps in his home and is constantly looking for ways that he, and Stratford, can be more sustainable. The 2016 Green Energizer Youth Award recipient will be announced at the award ceremony. She is a passionate individual who has distributed petitions, met with various municipalities on environmental initiatives and is constantly working to improve active transportation in PEI. She is a member of her school’s Green Club, a member of the Sierra Club and an active member of Save our Seas & Shores.

“Both of these award recipients will be a valuable addition to the Stratford Community Energy Plan Committee and will help steer the energy future of Stratford”, commented Mayor David Dunphy. “The Town of Stratford would like to thank all of the residents who submitted nominations for these awards”.

The Stratford Energy Champion Program is designed to recognize individuals who are leading the way towards energy efficiency and sustainability. Stratford will award one Energy Champion award to someone 19 years or older as well as one Green Energizer Youth Award to someone between the ages of 12-18.

The public is invited to attend the award ceremony being held on Wednesday, December 14th prior to the December Monthly Town Council Meeting.  The award ceremony will begin at 7:00 pm.
