Stratford Energy Champion Program for Residents

As Stratford continues to develop our Community Energy Plan (CEP), a new community program is being launched to celebrate the people who live in Stratford. The Stratford Energy Champion Program is designed to recognize individuals who are leading the way towards energy efficiency and sustainability.

“This program will help identify leaders in our community and recognize them for their current and previous service”, commented Mayor David Dunphy. “We know that there are great people out there doing great things, even simple small things, in the area of energy conservation and green energy and this is an opportunity for them to be acknowledged”.

Stratford will award one Energy Champion award to someone 19 years or older as well as one Green Energizer Youth Award to someone between the ages of 12-18. Nominations for both awards to recognize a Stratford resident are now being accepted until October 31, 2016 with the general public encouraged to send in their nominations throughout the month.

The Energy Champion and Green Energizer will be invited to attend Community Energy Plan meetings and events, and to be an ambassador for the Community Energy Plan in the adult and youth communities respectively.

The Community Energy Plan will help guide Stratford to a more energy efficient and sustainable future by focusing on five areas from which to make improvements in the community including: energy use, land use, transportation planning, water, and wastewater management. Alternative energy sources will be reviewed in the CEP as well as possible energy initiatives that can be applied to Stratford in the future. Upon completion, the project will include an implementation plan, monitoring plan and greenhouse gas emission inventory.

For the Stratford Community Energy Plan to be successful, town residents and businesses must be involved in every phase of the plan’s development. The Community Energy Champion and Green Energizer will help to engage residents and businesses in the development and implementation of the CEP. Selected award winners will be announced in November.
