Media Release: Stratford Celebrates Culture Days

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 21, 2015
Stratford, PE – In celebration of national Culture Days, the Town of Stratford is hosting a ‘Literary Festival’, designed to celebrate the written and spoken art.

Stratford Culture Days will be held this coming Friday, September 25 through Sunday, September 27.  All events are free of charge and take place at Stratford Town Centre in the Southport Room.

Culture Days kicks off on Friday evening with a special Island Ghost Storytelling Event at 7:00 pm. International award winning young adult and adult author Patti Larsen will be reading from her new book “Ghost Boy of MacKenzie House” and well known Island author Julie Hughes alongside storyteller Debbie Gamble will be reading from Julie’s book “Ghost Stories and Legends of Prince Edward Island”, a collection of true tales not for the faint of heart. This is an all ages event but we remind everyone to use their discretion as this event might be scary for some.

The morning of Saturday, September 26 is Family Storytelling beginning with Terrilyn Kerr reading from her new children’s book “The Little Red Marble: A Journey into Sea Glass” at 9:00 am. This will be followed at 10:00 am by David Weale and his award winning book “Doors In The Air”, which has been chosen as the Canadian Children’s Book Centre TD Grade One Book Giveaway, the largest free-book distribution program for school-aged children in Canada. All English and French Grade 1 students will receive a copy of David’s book this year – that’s more than 500,000 copies in total!

Deirdre Kessler will be joining in Family Storytelling at 11:00 am to read from a selection of her well-loved children’s books such as “Lobster In My Pocket”, the ‘Brupp’ Series, and “Lena and the Whale”. All Saturday morning events are family friendly and free with all ages welcome to attend.

Comedian, writer, and fellow Islander Patrick Ledwell makes a visit to Stratford Town Centre on Sunday, September 27 at 2:00 pm to share with us his hilarious observations on what is means to be an Islander. Patrick’s book, “I Am an Islander” is a funny and heartfelt stockpile of standup, sketches, and rants. Raised on PEI, Patrick Ledwell draws on his experiences growing up in an Island family and the funny trials of staying true to his roots. Patrick’s smart, quick-witted comedy has brought him national recognition with multiple appearances on CBC Radio’s The Debaters. His comic monologues have been a regular national CBC Radio feature. Patrick has also co-created several original stage shows, including the hit production, “Come All Ye.”
