Stratford Releases 4th Annual Resident Survey Results

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 29th, 2015

Stratford, PE – Today the Town of Stratford released the results of its 4th Annual Resident Survey. Each year residents are asked their opinion about topics such as the environment, healthy living, safety, and services within the Town.

This year, the results remain consistent with the previous years showing continued satisfaction among residents with Town governance and the services provided. For example 81% of residents indicated they are “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with the overall performance of the Town. At the same time, 95% of residents report they have a “great deal” or “some” confidence in the Stratford RCMP.

The annual survey serves as a method for the Town to monitor its performance towards its strategic goals including environmental responsibility. As part of this goal, the Town has implemented a toilet rebate program that has been very successful. The survey demonstrated that 91% of residents were aware of the program and the Town is now extending the program for the remainder of 2015.

“The Annual Resident Survey has become an important tool for the Town,” commented Town of Stratford Mayor, David Dunphy. “Through the survey we are able to gain insight into how residents feel we are doing and learn their thoughts on important topics such as cosmetic pesticides, water metering and policing.”

New to the survey this year was the inclusion of a Net Promoter ScoreSM question. The Net Promoter ScoreSM was originally created to aid businesses to gauge the attitudes and behaviors of their customers in terms of how likely they are to actively promote a product. As it is applied to communities today, it is used as a benchmarking tool for noting changes in residents’ satisfaction with their community over time.

For the first year, as a baseline, the survey found that a majority of residents (56%) scored in the “promoter” category and a small number (13%) scored in the “detractor” category giving Stratford a positive Net Promoter ScoreSM of 43.

Also added to the survey this year were a series of questions regarding youth and family programming within the Town. The survey asked respondents with anyone under the age of 19 living in their household a series of questions to understand their interests in local programming. These results are being analyzed and will be used by the Town to prioritize programming going forward.

“We have a goal of making Stratford the best community in which to live and we’re always looking for ways to better understand our residents’ perspectives and improve our programs and services to meet their needs,” shared Dunphy. “Council and staff will continue to use the results of the survey to improve Stratford.”

The 2015 Annual Resident survey was conducted between March 9th and April 25th with 1,000 adult residents completing the survey, an increase over previous years. The survey accuracy (margin of error) was +/- 3.2%, 19 times out of 20, corrected for the total population of adults living in the Town of Stratford.
